Loulé

The city of Loulé, located in the area of ​​gently rolling hills, situated between the beautiful south coast and the rural small villages of the northern Caldeirão mountains, has the atmosphere of a bustling market town which, unlike the relaxed holiday atmosphere in the resorts on the Sea standing. Loulé's coast is home to what is commonly referred to as the "golden triangle" an area that includes the luxurious resorts of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura. The golden beaches, elegant hotels, first-class golf courses of the chic marina, the casino and the abundance of leisure and entertainment facilities have made this area one of Europe's leading travel destinations.

The highlight in Loulé is the carnival. The carnival celebrations of Loulé, which are known throughout Portugal, bring with them parties for three days and nights. Removals with bright, colorful, moving carriages are drawn through the streets in the midst of glitter, feathers and elaborate costumes to the sound of Samba rhythms.

A more venerable event in the city, which also attracts many visitors, is the Easter festival in honor of the Mother of God. The town which is about 12 km from the coast, has preserved its centuries-old charm and developed into the commercial center of the region. It is really a pleasure to explore the historical city center with the fortifications of the 13th century castle. The fortifications offer a picturesque view of the rooftops and the network of cobblestone streets lined with talented craftsmen who have made Loulé famous as the capital of arts and crafts in the Algarve. Beautiful clay pots, blacksmith and copper works, wooden toys, colorful ceilings and artistic embroidery are among the many examples of the craftsmanship produced here, which can also be admired at the weekly market on Saturday. Come to the annual arts and crafts fair in July and enjoy the beautiful craftsmanship, the sales booths, where delicious specialties of the region are offered and ample music for a festive atmosphere is played.

The impressive market hall, housed in a Moorish-inspired 20th-century building, is the most famous landmark in the city, and it is a real pleasure to have a look at the local food market. The colorful stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, cheese varieties and regional sweets are an excellent way to purchase local product. In the historical center, you can also visit the Parish Church of St. Clement from the 13th century, the Municipal Museum and the nearby Jardim dos Amuados (the "Garden of the Insulted") before entering one of the many restaurants in the city Famous regional cuisine. The delicious regional dishes that combine the flavors of the sea and the mountains range from Quarteira's fleshy sardines and various seafood to the hearty hare and pork specialties from the rural communities in the north.
